André Schulze (*1982) is a German artist and painting conservator based in Dresden, specializing in the restoration and artistic transformation of historical paintings. His works, particularly the so-called “pixel paintings,” are internationally recognized and have gained worldwide attention.

Schulze works with original paintings sourced from private collections, antique shops, and flea markets. Following a meticulous restoration process, he reinterprets these works through painting, translating them into a contemporary visual language. His reworkings are technically precise and executed with a high level of craftsmanship.

The artist’s distinctive signature is clearly visible throughout his practice: a combination of technical refinement, conceptual clarity, and a subtle, often humorous approach. Schulze understands his work as a dialogue between past and present, in which existing paintings are not overwritten but expanded and recontextualized.
